Cash for College - FAFSA Session TUESDAY 8-10 AM

Freddie Dunning from the financial aid office at Jefferson State Community College has graciously agreed to be on campus this TUESDAY to help any parents and students with the FAFSA from 8-10 AM.  We will have laptops set up in the kitchen and I encourage you to drop by and take advantage of this free service.
Please take the time to file for Financial Aid, especially with someone as knowledgable as Mr. Dunning.  If you cannot make that time, please call my office and we will schedule an individual appointment.
The following information will help you prepare if you haven't had a chance to read the previous financial aid post:

When do I need to start to fill out the FAFSA?
If you are graduating from high school in 2016, you can start filling out your FAFSA on January 1,2016. Colleges and scholarships might have specific deadlines so file the FAFSA as early as possible. March 1 is most colleges’ priority deadline. Financial aid dollars are limited and usually are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To speed up the process, apply for your FSA ID before January 1, 2016:
Students should apply for a FSA ID at www.fafsa.gov If you are a “dependent” student, a parent/legal guardian will ALSO need to apply for an FSA ID at www.fafsa.gov
Keep your FSA ID and password in a safe place. You will need it to log in each time to work on your the FAFSA. Once you receive an FSA ID, you are ready to begin your FAFSA at fafsa.gov on January 1, 2016.
You will need information from these documents to fill out your 2016-17 FAFSA:
Your Social Security card
Your driver's license (if any)
Your 2015 W-2 forms and other records of money earned
Your (and if married, your spouse's) 2015 Federal Income Tax Return Your Parents’ or Legal Guardians' 2015 Federal Income Tax Return
Your 2015 untaxed income records
Your current bank statements
You do not have to complete your FAFSA in one sitting - you can save your application and return to it later. Make sure to keep these records. You may need to refer to them later.
