BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -FOX6 News anchor Sarah Verser shows us a new tool to make your search for college money much easier.
Jalen Newton's smile is matched only by his achievements on the varsity football field at Parker High School and in the classroom. He can boast a 3.6 GPA.
He has a couple more things going for him including his mentor Justin Mayfield of the Rotaract Club and now
AchieveAlabama.org. The website puts scholarships opportunities right at his fingertips for free. It's the fruit of a partnership between Rotaract Club, College Admissions Made Possible and an online scholarship search engine called
Cappex.
Students and parents can search for national and local scholarships. Some of the local money can go unnoticed.
"A lot of scholarships come to my office and my counselors' offices but what this website has done is it's opened up scholarships that I have never heard of as a high school principal," Parker principal Darrell Hudson said.
The website also rates the difficulty of the application process and if a college is a good match for students. There are also student reviews of colleges and information like tuition costs and admission requirements.
