Senior Mock Interviews - Friday, April 24th

We are excited to have Senior Mock Interviews scheduled for Friday, April 24th.  Community representatives will be interviewing our students that morning.  Participating students will need to have a resume and dress appropriately.  Students who score 80% on the rubric will be able to go to lunch that day off campus!  :)

Stonewall Jackson Memorial Scholarship (Seniors) Due April 1st

The Alabama Department of History and Archives recently asked the ALSDE to help get the word out to high school counselors about the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Fund Repayable Scholarship. In order to qualify, applicants must submit an essay of 1,500 - 2,500 words on a topic or issue that relates to the life of Stonewall Jackson.
A cover page and an annotated bibliography of sources must accompany the essay.
****The scholarship functions as a repayable no-interest loan that must be
repaid after graduation from college.****

The scholarship evaluation committee will award repayable scholarships of the following amounts: 1st place, $3,000; 2nd place, $2,000;
and 3rd place, $1,000. The application deadline is April 1, 2015. More information about the scholarship, as well as the application, can be found here:

Upcoming College Days (Stillman and Wallace)

Stillman will host their annual Tigerfest on Saturday, April 11th.  Registration begins at 9 - and Tigerfest begins at 10.  Sessions will include:  Information about Tuition Reduction, Admissions, Financial Aid, Campus Tours, Athletic Visitation, Band and Choir Auditions and Academic Presentations.

NCAA Eligibility - How to Register

How to Register with the NCAA to begin eligibility process

To register with the eligibility center, you must complete the Student Release Form and amateurism questionnaire at the beginning of your junior year online and send the eligibility center the registration fee ($50 for domestic and $75 for international students). This Student Release Form does two things:

1) It authorizes each high school you have attended to send the eligibility center your transcript, test scores, proof of graduation and other necessary academic information. 

2) It authorizes the eligibility center to send your academic information to all colleges that request your eligibility status. 

The only method is to register online. Go online to the NCAA Eligibility Center. Select Prospective Student-Athletes and then register as a U.S. or international student. Complete the Student Release Form online and include your credit or debit card information to pay the fee. Then follow instructions to complete the transaction. Print a copy of your completed registration form and both Copy 1 and Copy 2 of the Transcript Release Form. Sign the Transcript Release Forms and give both to your high school guidance office.

Eligibility Requirements

Division I
If you enroll in a Division I college on or after August 1, 2008, and want to participate in athletics or receive an athletic scholarship during your first year, you must:

Graduate from high school;

Complete these 16 core courses: 
4 years of English 
3 years of math (algebra 1 or higher) 
2 years of natural or physical science (including one year of lab science if offered by your high school) 
1 extra year of English, math or natural or physical science 
2 years of social science 
4 years of extra core courses (from any category above, or foreign language, nondoctrinal religion or philosophy); 
Earn a minimum required grade-point average in your core courses; and 
Earn a combined SAT or ACT sum score that matches your core course grade-point average and test score sliding scale(see below) (for example, a 2.400 core-course grade-point average needs an 860 SAT). 
Division II
If you enroll in a Division II college and want to participate in athletics or receive an athletics scholarship during your first year, you must: 

Graduate from high school;

Complete these 14 core courses: 
3 years of English 
2 years of math (algebra 1 or higher) 
2 years of natural or physical science (including one year of lab science if offered by your high school) 
2 extra years of English, math or natural or physical science 
2 years of social science 
3 years of extra core courses (from any category above, or foreign language, nondoctrinal religion or philosophy); 
Earn a 2.000 grade-point average or better in your core courses; and 
Earn a combined SAT score of 820 or an ACT sum score of 68. 
Note: There is no sliding scale in Division II. Also, Division II will require 16 core courses (similar to NCAA Division I) beginning on August 1, 2013.

Division III

Division III does not use the NCAA Eligibility Center. Contact your Division III College admission office regarding its policies on admission, financial aid, practice and competition.

WHO MAY APPLY: Any prospective student (male or female), resident of the U.S.A. who plans to pursue a higher education or college, including trade and vocational school may file an application.  All applicants must be citizens of the United States of America on the date the application is filed.  This application must be filed with The Rita Jones Scholarship Fund Committee, First United Methodist Church, 207 Eighth Street N., Clanton, Alabama 35045 on the date advised.

To be considered as eligible for this one year grant, a student must: a.) have an overall B average; b.) earn a diploma from an accredited public school or an accredited private school (certificate not acceptable); c.) G.P.A. and A.C.T. are must be provided with a notarized copy of high school transcript; and d.) have letter of acceptance from the college you will attend.  The recipient of this one year grant must enroll as a full-time student.

Qualification of a dependent minor applicant will be based on parents’ average gross income.  The Scholarship money may be used for State schools, trade schools, vocational schools and private schools anywhere in the United States of America.

This is an assistance Grant and is not intended to cover the full cost of your education.  It is the

responsibility of the student to also seek assistance from other sources for cost of education that is not covered by this Grant through personal or parental contribution or through other sources of assistance programs.

GRANT PAYMENT:  A check payable to a school of your choice will be made upon receipt of verification of the amount of tuition and fees.  This Award money will only cover payment for this current year.

The Registration Deadline for the June 13th Assessment is May 8th.

Summer Leadership Camp (Current Grades 10/11)

Do you know any rising high school juniors and seniors who want to be better
leaders? 

Each year Jefferson State, in partnership with Wallace State Community
College, Lawson State Community College, and the Boy Scouts of America,
hosts the Walsh Academy of Leadership (WAL). This year, the WAL will be held
June 18-20. 

The WAL is a three-day, two-night leadership experience held on the
beautiful campuses of the University of Montevallo and the American Village.
Students have an opportunity to network with other students from across the
southeast, participate in Liberty (the premier education program at the
American Village), play interactive games, and experience college life.
