College Counts Scholarship Deadline
Please see information below regarding the CollegeCounts Scholarship deadline—students must apply by April 22.
College can be the best time of your life. But paying for college isn’t easy. In fact, the cost of college can make some students afraid to even try. That’s why we created the CollegeCounts Scholarship: to provide funding assistance to Alabama high school students who demonstrate a financial need and a genuine desire to make a difference in what’s next. If you’re thinking about enrolling at an Alabama college or university, don’t let funds get in the way. The CollegeCounts Scholarship might just be for you!
This year, $1M will be awarded to deserving Alabama students. To apply, visit http://collegecountsalabama.com/
Upcoming ASVAB Date
Jefferson State CC will host the ASVAB on April 29th at 9:00. After the test, there will be a campus tour and lunch provided. Please call Mrs. Cochran by Tuesday, April 26th if you need to reserve a seat.

ACT with Writing (11th Grade) on Tuesday - importance of ACT scores!
This Tuesday, April 19th, our 11th grade students will take the ACT in the band room. Testing will start at 8:00 and last until 12:30 (approx). I visited the 11th graders today to pass out the free College Planner from Potential Magazine that we received at College Night on Tuesday at Jeff State. Our Career Coach, Kim Benson, hopes that we can have the group that presented back again soon.
I shared with the Juniors about the importance of the ACT and information we heard at the meeting last night. The presenters discussed that 80% of scholarship money comes from Merit awards from schools. These are awards based on GPA and ACT score. An ACT score can help you with a full ride to institutions in our state and beyond. Students have been preparing during acceleration for the ACT, but please encourage them to study at home and do their best Tuesday. The difference in ONE point on their score can be thousands of dollars of tuition!
Please call the office if you have any questions. :)

Scholarship
The Good South, Southern lifestyle clothing company based in Greenville, SC, is proud to announce the launch of our third annual scholarship application. As former college admissions counselors, we know how expensive college can be and understand the majority of families cannot outright afford college expenses. At The Good South, we donate a portion of our yearly proceeds to the The Good South Scholarship Fund and are excited to award four scholarships this year ranging from $250 to $500. We are looking for well-rounded applicants who excel both inside and outside the classroom. While scholastic achievement is very important, it is equally important for students to be leaders and have a passion for service.
The application for the The Good South Scholarship can be found atwww.thegoodsouth.com. The application deadline is April 15, 2016.

Central Alabama/Southern Union Information
Greetings!
Central Alabama Community College, Chattahoochee Valley Community College, and Southern Union State Community College are excited to share that we are combining forces to become a regional community college so that we may
ENHANCE student opportunities and student success,
SUPPORT workforce development, and
ENGAGE the lifelong learning needs of our communities, businesses, and industries.
Students attending the newly consolidated regional community college will continue to receive an excellent and affordable education as well as outstanding training opportunities to gain the skills needed for today's in-demand careers. In fact, students will benefit the most from expanded resources and multiplied possibilities!
In keeping with the vision of the Alabama Community College System, affordable pathways to quality education and training will continue to be offered to all students with financial aid options available to students who qualify.
As we move forward with the consolidation of our three colleges, specific steps will be taken to ensure a smooth transition for our students, beginning with the consolidation of a federal student aid code that must be included on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
· Effective immediately, students should ADD the federal school code, 001007, on the 2016-2017 FAFSA.
· Students who have already completed the 2016-2017 FAFSA should go back in on the www.FAFSA.gov website to make a correction and ADD the federal school code, 001007, to the FAFSA.
· If you have already listed Central Alabama Community College, 001007, on your 2016-2017 FAFSA, no further action is needed at this time.
Please note that this federal school code is currently assigned to Central Alabama Community College; therefore, this college will appear on your FAFSA as a selected school regardless of the location you plan to attend. Once the consolidation of the three colleges has final approval by the Department of Education, the college name will automatically update to the new regional college name.
While sharing the commitment of the Alabama Community College System to provide a unified system of institutions, our promise to you is to continue the provision of comprehensive and high quality services as we create our consolidated regional college.
Stay tuned for additional updates. We look forward to seeing you in the Fall!
UA Rural Scholars Program (Juniors)
Seeking Your Best & Brightest Juniors for the
Rural Health Scholars Program
|
We need your help in identifying candidates for UA's Rural Health Scholars Program.
High school juniors interested in healthcare are invited to come to the UA campus for five weeks in the summer to live on the UA campus and take two college-level courses. Additionally, they get the opportunity to participate in health-related seminars and field trips and even get to shadow physicians at University Medical Center. Studies show, students from rural areas who study medicine often return to rural settings to practice as professionals. By fostering an interest in healthcare now, RHSP seeks to improve and expand medical services in rural communities in the future. Please share this information with your colleagues and ask them to encourage the best and brightest students to apply to this exciting program. Application deadline is March 15! Complete eligibility requirements are included in the program brochure, flyer and are posted online. |
